457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan
Eligibility
You are immediately eligible to join the plan upon hire.
Enrollment
Join your plan online.
Contributions
You decide the amount to contribute and can change your pre-tax contribution amount at any time by following one of the methods below:
Online
Log in to your account using your User ID and password.* Go to the Manage My Account tab, select the Contributions menu option, and follow the directions on the page.
* If you have not established online access, you may set up your User ID and password online. Your Miami-Dade County plan number is 300565.
Voice Response System
Dial (800) 669-7400 and follow the instructions provided. Note: You will need your Social Security Number to use this method. You may opt out of the automated system at any point by pressing “0” to speak with a Participant Services representative.
Participant Services
Dial (800) 669-7400 and press “0” to speak with a MissionSquare Retirement Participant Services representative. They will gladly assist you with changing your salary deferral.
* Note: Increases and decreases to your deferrals can be done once per month. Increases will be effective the first payroll cycle of the following month. Decreases will be effective as soon as administratively possible. Discontinuing your deferrals can be done at any time and will take effect as soon as administratively possible.
You may also transfer or roll over other eligible retirement accounts into the plan.
The IRS sets contribution limits. Review the current limits.
Vesting
Vesting refers to your ownership of the money in your account. You are always 100% vested in your own contributions and their earnings.
Investments
Your contributions will be invested in the funds you select, and the value of your account will fluctuate with their performance. Carefully review your investment options before making your selections. You can make changes to your investments at any time.
Withdrawals
After you separate from service with your employer, you will be eligible to withdraw your money at any time. However, you will not be required to take any withdrawals until after age 73. While you are still employed, your withdrawal options are limited to attaining age 70½, balances under $5,000 (with no contributions made for a period of two years), or emergency withdrawals, as defined by the IRS.
Loans
Your plan allows you to borrow money from your account while you are still employed. The maximum loan amount is limited to half of your account balance or $50,000, whichever is less.
Beneficiaries
Review and update your beneficiary designation(s) as you experience life-changing events.
To update your beneficiary information online, log in to your MissionSquare account.
Account Information
Follow these steps to create your account, access your plan, and make your contribution election.
Log into manage your account, sign up for e-Delivery and text updates, and update your personal information.
If you have not set up your account, click on "Create your Login" and follow the steps. While in your account, make sure your beneficiaries are up to date.

*Age 70½ (if you were born before July 1, 1949), age 72 (if you were born after June 30, 1949, and before Jan. 1, 1951), or age 73 (if you were born after Dec. 31, 1950).
